Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

We provide Autism diagnostic services at The Giraffe Centre, where Dr. Debi Ray, a pediatrician, and Leila Afshar, our speech and language therapist, conduct assessments.

At The Giraffe Centre, we utilise the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) as an integral part of our Autism assessment process.

The ADOS is a semi-structured and standardised assessment tool that evaluates communication, social skills, play, and behaviour. It enables our clinicians to thoroughly examine how your child communicates, interacts, and engages in play.

The ADOS assessment involves play-based activities, where the clinician interacts with your child through games. By closely observing your child’s communication, interactions, play, and behaviour during these activities, the clinician can make an informed assessment regarding the likelihood of Autism.

The entire assessment process includes:

  • Initial appointment with Paediatrician
  • ADOS assessment with SaLT
  • School questionnaire sent to school/ nursery
  • Findings collated into a report from SaLT and Paediatrician
  • Final feedback appointment with Paediatrician
